Watching the morning light

Morning light rarely arrives all at once. It moves from the edge of a curtain to the floor, then slowly reaches the objects left on a table. A cup can look almost unfamiliar when its shadow changes direction.

These small changes offer a useful way to pay attention. There is no need to find a remarkable view: an ordinary room holds enough movement if it is observed for a little while.

A notebook can preserve that kind of looking. A few words about the colour of the wall or the shape of a shadow can bring back more of a morning than a long account of everything that happened.
